$3.99 Generics Program Contributes to Communities Each Time New Members Join

DAYTON, OH, April 5, 2011 – Clark’s Rx Pharmacy, announced today that Club Rx, a prescription savings program that gives members generic prescriptions for only $3.99 on a 30-day supply, and $10 on a 90-day supply, has donated over $5,000 to nine various community charities since the program’s inception earlier in 2010.

Club Rx was introduced earlier last year to offer customers $3.99 generics, as well as have a positive impact within the communities Clark’s Rx serves. Clark’s Rx Pharmacy donates 100 percent of the $5 annual membership fee to one selected charity within the nine communities with Clark’s Rx pharmacy locations.

“People are always looking for ways to save and many pharmacies offer generic programs,” said Tim Clark, president of Clark’s Rx.  “With our program, we wanted people to save and know they’re helping others at the same time. This has been a core philosophy of our business for more than 70 years and we’re thrilled to be able to give these customer-funded donations to area non-profits.”

Each Clark’s Rx store selected the location in their area to receive the funds.  This round of donations includes a total of $1,485.

Vitamins: Your Daily Health Insurance.

Did you know that one of the most common poisons for an adult is an analgesic (pain medication)?  Last week was National Poison Prevention Week.  By Presidential proclamation, this week is dedicated to awareness of poisoning and the commitment of poison safety in our homes and communities for people of all ages. The American Association of Poison Control Centers are here to help, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  One of the most important numbers you should know is the poison hotline. This toll free number is 1.800.222.1222.

So what does the American Association of Poison Control Centers do?  Lucky for us, we have a Board Certified Poison Control Specialist on staff, our very own Pharmacist, Heather Della Vedova.  Heather has been working at the Cincinnati Poison Control Center since 2003, which is part of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.  She became certified once she earned her PharmD degree and became a Pharmacist in 2009. “Working at the Poison Control Center has been a blessing to me, I’ve been able to use my knowledge and skills to better service my pharmacy customers here at Clark’s Rx Pharmacy in New Lebanon,” says Heather.

The poison control center answers calls on a wide range of topics.  Most involve questions about medications and drug interactions.  Parents call with questions ranging with questions about their kids, to questions about their pets.  The PCC will also assist and educate about pill identification plus give recommendations to callers.  The poison control center can save your life.  So put that toll free number (1.800.222.1222) in your phone immediately.   Heather Della Vedova, PharmD says, “I recommend always having the Poison Control Center phone number readily available.  You never know when you may need it and this number will connect you to the closest center no matter where you are.”

Potassium Iodide is not recommended at all until radiation levels hit the tens of thousands of microsieverts, and that will not be happening here.  You do not take Potassium Iodide as a preventative measure for radiation.

Americans Consistently Have High Levels of Trust in Community Pharmacists

DAYTON, OH  – Clark’s Rx Pharmacy, the locally owned Health Pharmacy, announced today that for the eighth consecutive year, pharmacists have placed in the top three in Gallup’s Honesty and Ethics survey, which measures the public’s trust of professionals across diverse disciplines, including but not limited to healthcare. The latest results of the annual survey were released by Gallup today.

“Druggists or pharmacists” ranked third – behind nurses, which ranked first, and military officers.

Among respondents, 71 percent rated the honesty and ethical standards of pharmacists as “very high” or “high” – an increase from 66 percent in 2009.

“Pharmacists are the face of neighborhood healthcare,” said NACDS (National Association of Chain Drug Stores) President and CEO Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE. “They are highly accessible, with nearly all Americans living within five miles of a community pharmacy. They also are highly trusted – a concept that is supported again by the Gallup survey.

“We find that people are interested to hear about the education that pharmacists receive. To sit for pharmacy Board licensure exams today, candidates must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD), which requires a minimum of six years of professional education. Pharmacists are well qualified to meet the day-to-day needs of patients, as well as to help patients chart strategies to take their medications correctly.’”

“These survey results reinforce what we experience every day with our customers,” said Tim Clark, president of Clark’s Rx. “With schedules getting busier and relationships becoming more fragmented, people like knowing that they can rely on their pharmacist to know and understand their situation.”
